Before & After: How We Transformed Our Heritage Floors Bathroom into a Modern Showpiece

At Heritage Floors, we spend every day helping homeowners create beautiful spaces. But every once in a while, it’s time to turn that same attention to our own building.

Our showroom bathroom had served us well for years, but it no longer reflected the quality of craftsmanship or the products we offer our customers. It was functional, but it certainly wasn’t inspiring.

So we decided to start from scratch.

The result is a dramatic transformation that showcases the beauty, durability, and versatility of modern porcelain tile.

The Before

The original bathroom was exactly what you’d expect from an older commercial space. Painted drywall, aging flooring, a drop ceiling, and basic fixtures created a room that felt dated and lacked personality.

While there was nothing wrong with it structurally, it didn’t represent who Heritage Floors is today.

We wanted visitors to walk into this room and immediately see what thoughtful design, quality materials, and expert craftsmanship can accomplish.

The Vision

Rather than creating a trendy space that would quickly feel outdated, our goal was to build a bathroom with timeless appeal.

The design combines bold charcoal wall tile, dramatic marble-look porcelain, warm brass accents, matte black fixtures, and clean architectural lines to create a space that’s modern, elegant, and built to last.

Every detail was selected intentionally—from the oversized porcelain panels to the finishing Schluter trim around the recessed niche.

The Tile Selections

Wall Tile

The walls are finished with Milestone Urban Living porcelain tile in the Metropolis color, measuring 12″ x 24″.

Its rich charcoal tone creates a sophisticated backdrop while the large format minimizes grout joints for a clean, contemporary appearance. A textured accent band wraps the room, adding subtle visual interest without distracting from the overall design. We did a decorative band in the Chiseled look from the same Urban Living line. This decorative band was installed at about 48″ off the floor to break up the pattern.

We also used this decorative band to feature a 12″ x 28″ niche from Schluter, then trimmed it with a beautiful gold Schluter trim.

Feature Wall

Behind the vanity, we installed a stunning 48″ x 110″ Milestone Jem large-format porcelain panel in Symphony Red (polished).

This oversized panel serves as the focal point of the room. The dramatic movement of the veining provides the beauty of natural stone while offering all the advantages of porcelain—including exceptional durability, stain resistance, and easy maintenance.

Using a single large-format panel instead of multiple smaller tiles creates a seamless appearance with virtually no grout joints to interrupt the design.

Floor Tile

The floor features Milestone Jem porcelain tile in Symphony Red (matte), sized 24″ x 48″.

Continuing the same material from the feature wall onto the floor creates visual continuity and gives the room a luxurious, high-end feel. The large-format tiles also make the room appear larger while reducing grout lines for easier maintenance.

The Details Make the Difference

Some of our favorite elements are the ones many people don’t immediately notice.

The recessed niche is framed with brass Schluter® trim, providing crisp, finished edges while tying together the warm brass finishes found throughout the space. Schluter trim profiles not only protect exposed tile edges but also give the installation a clean, professional appearance that simply isn’t possible with unfinished tile edges.

The matte black vanity and faucet create a bold contrast against the marble-look porcelain, while the brushed brass cabinet hardware, round mirror, and vanity light add warmth and sophistication without overpowering the room.

Even the lighting was carefully planned to highlight the texture of the wall tile and emphasize the movement within the porcelain slab.

Why We Love Large-Format Porcelain

One of the biggest trends in today’s luxury bathrooms is the use of large-format porcelain tile.

Beyond their striking appearance, larger tiles offer several practical advantages:

  • Fewer grout joints for a cleaner look
  • Easier maintenance and cleaning
  • A more spacious, seamless appearance
  • Outstanding durability
  • Excellent resistance to moisture and staining

Modern porcelain has become one of the best materials available for both residential and commercial bathrooms because it combines beautiful design with long-lasting performance.
